Feng Shui Salt Cure

Updated: Feb 21, 2023

Salt is a very powerful tool to use to absorb and neutralize negative energy. It has been used in many cultures and practices throughout the world for thousands of years.

In Feng Shui, we use salt cures to transmute negative energy in our homes and environments. They consist of a glass container, 6 I-Ching coins or US Pennies, coarse salt and water. They need to be out in the open, not tucked away in a cabinet or closet. It’s ok to place them behind a picture frame or behind a plant if you don’t want them so visible. Just make sure they are exposed and able to breathe so they can do their magic. You do not want to place them in an area where they will be disturbed or in the way. They will be absorbed with negative energy so you don’t want to touch them or move them around.

Over time, the salt will start to crystalize and grow on the outside of the container. It is recommended to place the salt cure on a coaster to protect your furniture from the salt.

They are truly pieces of art!!! I love watching them transform. If they don’t do much, then the energy wasn’t as negative in that space. If they really grow or change colors even, then they are doing their job absorbing and neutralizing the negative energy in that area.

You can place salt cures in any area, but it is recommended to place cures in the directions of the #2 & #5 Annual Flying Stars. These stars carry negative energy in the directions they are in. Adding salt cures in these locations helps to neutralize the negative energy. The directions will change yearly, so new salt cures will need to be made every Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year) and new salt cures placed in those directions. Salt cures are kept for the whole year but you can replace them at any time throughout the year if you feel it has served its purpose and you feel called to make a new one. You can create a salt cure at any time during the year, just be sure to replace and relocate every Lunar Chinese New Year. You don't want to carry that energy into the new year.

WHERE DO I PLACE MY SALT CURE?

In Feng Shui, we follow the Flying Star System to determine what directions the negative energy will reside in. The Flying Star System consists of 9 stars. Each star carries a different energy. The two major Stars to pay attention to and balance out are the yearly #2 (illness star) & #5 Star (illness, loss & misfortune). You can use salt cures anywhere in your home, but placing them where the #2 & #5 Stars reside for the year is advised.

Place Salt Cures in directions that the #2 & #5 Flying Stars will reside in for the current year.

For 2023, the #2 Star is in the East and the #5 Star is in the Northwest.

HOW DO I MAKE A SALT CURE?

Supplies you will need:

1. Glass container (pint size) Do not use a valuable container (it will be thrown out).

2. Coaster or dish to place the glass container on to protect your furniture.

3. 6 I-Ching coins or US Pennies. Do not use your valuable, authentic coins (they will be thrown out). Save those for your Wealth Bowl :-) Use coins that are made of copper or brass though. You can purchase coins online and choose what feels best to you.

4. Salt (coarse salt, not iodized), such as Sea Salt, Kosher, Himalyan, etc.

5. Purified or Distilled Water (NO tap water).

If you plan on making 2 Salt Cures, double the supplies listed above.

What you’ll do:

1. Wash and dry the container. I like to use lavender soap. Lavender has great cleansing energy, but any soap is fine. You can smudge the containers too if you feel called to.

2. Clear your personal energy. You want to make the salt cure with good intentions that it will absorb the negative energy. Take a few deep breaths and focus on setting these intentions.

3. Fill the container 1/2 full of salt.

4. Place 6 I-Ching coins or US Pennies, Yang side up, in a circle on top of the salt. For I-Ching coins, place the side with 4 characters on it up or US Pennies, it’s heads up. You can place all 6 coins in a circle or 5 in a circle and one in the middle. Do what you feel called to do.

5. Slowly fill with water, leaving some room at the top. It’s ok if some of the coins get covered with salt while filling with water.

6. Place Salt Cure in desired location on the coaster so you don’t ruin your furniture. Make sure it is placed in an area where it will not get touched or moved. It is recommended to place cures in the directions of the #2 & #5 Annual Flying Stars. These stars carry negative energy in the directions they are in. Adding salt cures in these locations helps to neutralize the negative energy. The directions will change yearly, so new salt cures will need to be made every Lunar New Year and placed in each of those directions.

7. Make sure you do not let your salt cure dry out. It will need to be topped off with purified or distilled water throughout the year as needed.

When you dispose of your salt cure make sure you use gloves, place it in a bag, and throw the entire thing in the trash. Do not reuse the container, coaster, or coins. Do not dump the remaining water down the sink or in your yard. Salt cures are full of negative energy so throw the entire thing away. Make sure you throw away the gloves used and wash your hands after disposing. Clean the area that the salt cure was in. You can smudge the area too if you feel called to.
