Salt is a very powerful tool used to absorb and neutralize negative energy. It has been used in many cultures and practices throughout the world for thousands of years. In Feng Shui, we use Salt Cures to transmute negative energy in our homes and environments. They consist of a glass container, 6 I-Ching coins (or US pennies), coarse salt and water. They need to be out in the open, not tucked away in a cabinet or closet. It’s ok to place them behind a picture frame or behind a plant if you don’t want them so visible. Just make sure they are exposed and able to breathe so they can do their magic. You do not want to place them in an area where they will be disturbed or in the way. They will be absorbed with negative energy so you don’t want to touch them or move them around. You will top them off with water through out the year. Make sure they do not dry out. Salt Cures are truly pieces of art. I love watching them transform. If they don’t do much, then the energy wasn’t as negative in that space. If they really grow or change colors even, then they are doing their job absorbing and neutralizing the negative energy in that area. You can create a Salt Cure at any time during the year, but definitely make a new one for the Chinese Lunar New Year. You can replace the Salt Cure at any time throughout the year if you feel it has served its purpose and you feel called to make a new one. When you dispose your salt cure make sure you use gloves, place it in a bag, and throw the entire thing in the trash. Do not reuse the container or coins. Do not dump the remaining water down the sink either. Wash your hands afterwards and you can make a new one.
The 2024 Chinese New Year is on February 10.
Per the Feng Shui calendar, great days to make your salt cures are:
January 1, 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, 19, 21, 27, 30 & 31
February 1, 6, 9, 10, 15, 17, 18, 21, 22 & 24
For 2024, you will want to place a Salt Cure in the West. Depending on the lay-out of your home, I would also suggest placing one in the South or Northeast if a main area, such as your living room, kitchen, or bedroom, is in one of these directions. If these directions are located in an area that you don't use that often, such as a guest room, then you will not need a salt cure in that direction. As always, follow your own intuition!
I hope you have a year full of positive vibes!
